In a move to bolster support for regional Australia, Westpac has announced the establishment of three new Regional Service Centres in Moree (NSW), Leongatha (VIC), and Smithton (TAS).

CEO Anthony Miller made the announcement during a trip to Moree in northern NSW, describing regional Australia as the “lifeblood of the country”.

“Regional Australia is pivotal to the nation’s economy. It’s home to a third of the population and contributes 30% to GDP.

“We’re investing in the regions because we want to support the hardworking Australians who live outside of our capital cities,” he says.

The new Regional Service Centres will offer a range of services tailored to meet the needs of local residents and businesses, including face-to-face support, digital banking assistance, and access to cash through Smart ATMs.

For Miller, the opening of these service centres signifies the commitment to building, “a model for the future.”

In Moree, known as the "Golden Wheatbelt" for its fertile lands and significant contributions to the wheat and cotton industries, the new service centre will play a vital role.

Moree's agricultural dominance, supported by ongoing investments in irrigation and renewable energy projects like the Moree Solar Farm, makes it a crucial piece of Australia's regional landscape.

Westpac's presence in Moree dates back to 1876, when the Bank of New South Wales, now Westpac, opened its branch in the town.

"We've thought long and hard about how we can provide a face-to-face service for our regional customers," Miller says.

"While most customers prefer to bank online, this new model will allow us to improve the way we help personal, business, and agri customers."

The initiative is part of Westpac's broader strategy to invest in regional Australia, which includes adding 150 new business bankers across its regional network over the next three years.

The Moree Regional Service Centre will be the first to open, with three local business and agri bankers already on the ground, to be joined by two personal bankers.

The Leongatha and Smithton Service Centres are planned to open in early 2026.
