Check the car you want is eligible
The electric or hybrid car you buy with a Westpac Car Loan will be used as security for the loan. So it must be:
- For personal use only
- An eligible vehicle type (refer to the table below for EV, PHEV and hybrid vehicle examples and corresponding loan types)
- 7 years old or less
- Imported by the manufacturer
- Never written off – even if repaired
- Comprehensively insured, showing Westpac as the financier
If your car doesn’t meet these criteria, consider our Unsecured Personal Loan
Vehicles eligible for a Westpac Electric Car Loan:
| Electric Vehicles (EVs) | run entirely on battery power — no petrol needed. Examples: Tesla Model Y, BYD Seal, Zeekr 7X. |
| Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) | use petrol and electric power, but the key difference is they can be plugged in and charged — just like an EV. Because of this, PHEVs qualify for an Electric Car Loan. Example: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV |
Vehicles eligible for a Westpac Hybrid Car Loan:
| Hybrid vehicles | also use petrol and electric power, but they can't be plugged in — the battery charges itself while driving. These are not eligible for an Electric Car Loan. If your car is a standard hybrid, choose a Hybrid Car Loan instead. Examples: Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Kia Sportage Hybrid. |
