Westpac Choice Concession

  • A basic, low-cost account with a Debit Mastercard®¹ to make deposits and withdrawals, payments online or on the Westpac App
  • For individuals who hold a Concession or Health Care card or receive an Australian Government benefit payment that makes you eligible to hold a Concession or Health Care card
  • $0 Account-keeping fee and $0 Overdrawn fee or debit interest (other fees may apply)
  • You’re at least 14 years old with an Australian residential address (under 14s apply in branch with a parent or guardian).

A secure code will be sent to your mobile to verify your phone number.

Two of these ID documents

  • Passport
  • Medicare card
  • Australian driver license
  • Australian birth certificate

If your details are entered incorrectly or we’re unable to identify you, your application will need to be completed in branch.

  • Both applicants will need their Westpac Online Banking sign in details
  • To gain full access to your account, you’ll need to be registered for Westpac Protect SMS Code. We’ll send an SMS Code to both applicants before you open your account.

If you or the person you’re applying with is a new Westpac customer, you’ll need to visit a branch together to open your account. Please make sure you both bring:  
 

  • Your tax details. We’ll need your Tax File Number (TFN) and if you’re a foreign tax resident, we’ll also need your tax residency details

  • Suitable ID. You’ll both need to be verified separately.

Things you should know

Am I eligible?

To be eligible for this account with certain features applied (e.g. waiver of account-keeping fees), you’ll need to be a Concession or Health Care card holder, or receive an eligible Australian Government payment. A list of eligible payments can be found at Service Australia and Department of Veterans' Affairs.

 

1 Debit Mastercard®: Choice for youth account, the eligible card age is 8. For any other transaction account, the eligible card age is 14. You must have an Australian residential address.
