Westpac Choice

  • An everyday account with a Debit Mastercard®¹ to make deposits and withdrawals, payments online or on the Westpac App
  • $0 Account-Keeping Fee for the first 12 months (usually $5 per month). After this, the fee will continue to be waived if you; deposit at least $2,000 each month, ​are under the age of 30 or are a full-time tertiary student​
  • You’re at least 14 years old with an Australian residential address.

Your mobile

A secure code will be sent to your mobile to verify your phone number.

Two of these ID documents

  • Passport
  • Medicare card
  • Driver licence (with photo and full name)
  • Birth certificate

Providing 2 forms of ID gives us a better chance to securely verify your ID online, saving you from visiting a branch.

Foreign tax details

Only applicable if you're liable to pay tax in another country.

  • To gain full access to your account, you’ll need to be registered for Westpac Protect SMS Code. We’ll send an SMS Code to both applicants before you open your account.

Complete your application in branch together

If you or the person you’re applying with is a new Westpac customer, you’ll need to visit a branch together to open your account. Please make sure you both bring:  
 

  • Your tax details. We’ll need your Tax File Number (TFN) and if you’re a foreign tax resident, we’ll also need your tax residency details

  • Suitable ID. You’ll both need to be verified separately.

Things you should know
1  Debit Mastercard®: Westpac Choice Youth account, the eligible card age is 8. For any other transaction account, the eligible card age is 14. You must have an Australian residential address.
