Westpac is an active participant in the ACCU (Australian Carbon Credit Unit) and REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) markets in Australia and NZU (New Zealand Units) market in New Zealand, helping customers access liquidity in an easy and efficient way.

What are ACCUs, RECs and NZUs?

ACCUs

Issued by the Clean Energy Regulator, they represent the avoidance or removal of one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-e). They can be used for both compliance and voluntary purposes.

RECs

Issued by the Clean Energy regulator, they represent 1MWH of eligible renewable electricity. They can be used for both compliance and voluntary purposes.

NZUs

Part of the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme. They represent the avoidance or removal of one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-e).
