Westpac’s focus on providing free financial education resources continues the legacy of Sir Alfred Davidson.
Who is Sir Alfred Davidson?
Born in 1882 in Brisbane, Davidson was the son of a bank manager and followed in his father’s footsteps, joining the Bank of New South Wales (now Westpac) in 1901. Davidson then worked his way up to the role of General Manager, from 1929 to 1945.
Faced with the financial challenges of the Great Depression, Davidson created a team of researchers to help work out a way forward. Understanding that these insights would also benefit the greater public, Davidson made the research widely available to organisations and the broader community enabling many Australians to better manage the effects of the Great Depression.
Through practical training, a commitment to learning, and an openness to new ideas, Davidson’s commitment to financial education was a benefit to all. We’re proud to carry on his legacy today at Westpac.
