Manage your money with a Debit Card
If you’re at least 8 years old, you can link a Debit Mastercard®7 to your Westpac Choice Youth account, giving a kick-start to your money skills with kid-friendly features that will keep you safe and secure.
The debit card is automatically linked when the account is opened, except for children under 14. For children 8-13, a parent or guardian must order their card separately.
How do I open a kids bank account?
You can open your new account online now. We'll ask for your name, date of birth and a few other details, along with a form of ID.

Frequently asked questions
If you're 8 years or over, you can order a Debit Mastercard to link to your Westpac Choice account.
Once you receive your debit card, follow the activation steps to activate it in Online Banking or the Westpac App.
Are you under 14? As the cardholder, sign into the Westpac App or Online Banking using your customer ID and password. A parent or guardian can then help you follow the card activation steps.

1. Monthly account keeping fees are waived for customers under 30. For a full list of fee waiver eligibility, refer to our Terms and Conditions (PDF 645KB)

Westpac Fraud Money Back Guarantee: ensures that customers will be reimbursed for any unauthorised transactions, provided that the customer has not contributed to the loss and contacted Westpac promptly. Refer to the Westpac Debit Mastercard Terms and Conditions for full details, including when a customer will be liable.
5. Google Pay: Read the Terms and Conditions (PDF 125KB) before making a decision and consider if it is right for you. Available for eligible cards. To use Google Pay you will need to use a compatible device with a supported operating system.
6. Finger print login: Fingerprint sign in is available on compatible devices only. Customers must be registered for Westpac online banking and have set up fingerprint ID to use the service.
7. Global ATM: A 3% Westpac Foreign Transaction Fee applies to overseas debit card withdrawals. A list of Global Alliance members is available. To ensure access to savings and/or cheque account funds when overseas obtain a Debit Mastercard®.
