What is SafeCall?

SafeCall is an Australian-first in-app calling capability to help prevent scammers impersonating us. If we need to talk to you, some calls will come through the App. Optus will verify the call is coming from Westpac, so you know it’s us.

How to use SafeCall

Set up access

To answer calls via the Westpac App, you'll need to update your permissions, including microphone and notifications.

Update your details

Make sure your device details and phone number are correct. We'll use the number we've got registered to send you an SMS code.

Answer a SafeCall

The call will come through your Westpac App and after 15 seconds it will revert to a regular phone call. You can answer as you would a normal call at any time.

When will I get a SafeCall?

  • Merchant Banking

You may still receive calls outside the App. If you’re not sure it’s us, ask for a reference number, then hang up and call us back on 132 032.

Frequently asked questions

No, SafeCall is available to all Westpac customers, regardless of telephone carrier, as long as they have an Australian mobile number. Westpac is now using SafeCall to contact some customers and we will continue to roll this out to more customers going forward.
