What our graduates have to say
As a graduate hire at Westpac, my days are incredibly varied and engaging. Let me give you a glimpse into this awesome experience.
My mornings kickstart with a quick team meeting to discuss project updates, issues, and priorities. From there, my day is packed with meetings - coordinating the rollout of a big new digital tool I'm leading, discussing getting involved in upcoming tech innovation events with my mentor, and celebrating team traditions like an infamous birthday singalong over lunch!
In the afternoon, I dive into process improvement activities like brainstorming sessions and documenting detailed workflows to share my learnings. A key part of the graduate program is rotating through different areas of the bank. Currently in my second rotation in the home loans team, I love these opportunities to build diverse skills.
As the day winds down, I meet with my graduate program manager to explore potential rotations for my final placement. The chance to experience varied roles and develop a wide perspective is exciting. While the days are certainly busy juggling multiple tasks, I thrive in this dynamic environment that brings fresh challenges daily.
Jeff, 2023 Transformation Graduate
I studied Psychology & Sociology at the University of Sydney and, in my spare time, I lead Australian soldiers as a Lieutenant in the Army Reserves.
I may be a Transformation grad, but I love history, mythology and ancient things (think ruins and old books)!
When I reflected on what I wanted at the beginning of my career, I wanted to leverage the size of the company I worked for to gain experience in different fields, create a strong professional foundation and work with people I could respect.
Choosing Transformation was the conduit to all of those things – it offers exposure to all areas of Westpac Group. I’m learning about fields like Change Management and Human Centred Design with great people, and everything we do has an impact on potentially millions of Australians (even better).
Since rolling off the program…
I am a Business Analyst working as part of the Automation & Digitisation in Channel Experience Transformation.
In Automation & Digitisation, we’re focused on finding ways to enhance customer experiences and business capabilities through digital solutions. This could involve things like automating business processes using Virtual Assistants, or digitising banking documentation so we reduce paper usage (and increase convenience).
The grad program gave me fantastic exposure to different areas of the business, role types, and ultimately helped build relationships that led to my current position.
Having a social science background (Psychology & Sociology) I thought I would never be involved with things like AI (and yet here I am).
