How do I verify my identity?

You’ll need to complete an identity check before you can open an account with Westpac.

If you live in Australia

You can complete an identity check when you open an account online. Examples of ID include:

  • Australian passport
  • Australian driver’s licence
  • Medicare card

Providing two forms of ID gives us a better chance to securely verify your ID online, saving you from visiting a branch.

For a list of documents that we accept, refer to Identification Checklist. (PDF 657KB)

If you're an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and don't have any of the required forms of identification, please call our Indigenous Call Centre on 1800 230 144 Monday to Friday 9am - 6.30pm ACST or visit your nearest branch.

If you're new to Australia
Once you arrive in Australia, you can open a Westpac Choice account online or in a local branch in just a few minutes. If you open online, you may still be required to visit a branch to verify your ID.
